Alex & Company enjoys a long history rooted in fine European design, intricate handcrafting, and a passion for creating unrivalled custom jewelry.
It all began in 1977 when Alex was just 15 years of age. Encouraged by his mother, Alex enrolled in the State Art College #11 in Saint-Petersburg to learn the art of jewelry making. In 1980, after graduating, Alex and his family immigrated to Boston to pursue their American Dream.
Alex’s expertise was quickly recognized in the industry and, in 1982, he was recruited to be an independent in-house designer for Robert Eyges Jewelers, where he handcrafted fine jewelry under the name of Design Jewelry, Inc.
As the demand for Alex’s designs multiplied, his father Boris came to support him at the jewelry bench.
In 1992, together with his wife, Sofia, Alex launched his own retail store in Piccadilly Square under the name Alex & Company. As first-time customers became repeat, lifetime customers, an additional showroom and a cutting edge design studio space became necessary. In 2002, Alex & Company moved to its current Newton, MA location.
Alex’s oldest son Daniel had been around the shop from a young age and developed his own passion for creating fine jewelry. After graduating from Suffolk University, Daniel began his formal jewelry apprenticeship and, in 2013, went on to earn his diploma as an accredited Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
The family then introduced the addition of Charlie, their miniature “guard dog.” In 2017, Alex’s youngest son Andrew, a graduate of Northeastern University (with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree) also became involved in the family business. With his Engineering background, Andrew now supports the manufacturing process, the retail showroom, and Alex & Company’s online presence.
